Based on the results from studies and workgroups, the foundation
for Chiropractic Outcomes is well established. Paper-based
assessments can measure and document red & yellow flags for
chronicity risk (self-rated poor health, job dissatisfaction,
etc), pain (VAS, QVAS, etc), disability (Oswestry, PDQ, etc),
function (SF-36, etc), psychosocial (PHQ, Zung, etc) and
satisfaction (CSQ, VSQ, etc). The Chiropractic Outcomes system
automates the assessment and data-collection process,
enabling the administration of the appropriate set
of assessments at the appropriate time.
Evidence-based justification
While the Chiropractic Outcomes system is configurable, the
outcome protocol phases generally accepted for Chiropractic
practices are Baseline, Frequent Visit, Re-evaluation, Semi-annual
review and Annual review. At Baseline, justify medical necessity
by establishing severity of not just clinical, but also patient-centric
measures, as well as consistently checking for chronicity
risk. At the same time, establish objective treatment goals
as explicit severity levels across multiple dimensions of
care.
During subsequent visits, the system re-administers baseline
measures and objectively tracks progress toward treatment
goals as fluctuations in severity along multiple dimensions
of care. The magnitude of the severity continues to justify
medical necessity, while continuing fluctuation in severity
justifies the length of treatment. Displayed as trended graphs,
this objectively documents a complete view of a patient's
progress without any extra work on the part of you or your
staff. If progress stops, you may adjust the treatment plan,
if appropriate, or cooperatively decide recovery is as complete
as possible. Everyone; you, your patient and payors can track
progress.
Red flags and yellow flags to support treatment and referrals
Prevention of disability and chronicity requires patient-centric
measures and mis-managing chronicity is costly not only in
dollars, but in needless pain and suffering. Studies have
shown that typically 85% of injuries will follow a natural
history and recovery will occur in 4 - 6 weeks. The remaining
15% of injuries are likely to become chronic. Chiropractic
Outcomes helps you with early detection and management of
disability and chronicity, minimizing long-term severity and
cost.
Track restoration and maintenance
While the primary emphasis is on restoration of acute injuries,
Chiropractic Outcomes also monitors maintenance treatment.
Semi-annual and Annual functional health measures over multiple
years track health improvement and maintenance. Once again,
objective patient-centric measures track progress.
